To start the morning, we ran north to take advantage of the calm winds and glassy lake on that side. We trolled at about 116 feet of water with both downriggers running between 35 and 60 feet, depending on where we were seeing fish on the fish finder. We were marking many fish but only got a couple bites. I landed a nice 15 inch kokanee on a pink wiggle hoochie, and got a few more bites on an orange Assassin lure. We tipped both lures with a piece of orange dyed corn on each hook. As the wind picked up, we decided to try another spot. As we turned to troll the opposite shore, the Assassin lure rod slammed down and we netted a beautiful 20 inch cutthroat trout.
While we trolled our way to Atlantic City boat launch, we heard drag zipping out and got a sockeye on the wiggle hoochie! We decided the fish must have been foul hooked as it kept taking out drag and we felt like we had no control. We had to chase the fish down, but luckily, the sockeye came off when it was in about 100 feet of water so we crossed our fingers that he was able to survive the ordeal.
After this excitement was over, we picked up another 16 inch cutthroat on a pink and yellow matching Brad's cut plug and dodger. We lost another kokanee at the net and got several more "drive-by's". The water started to churn as pleasure boaters hit the water, so we decided to head back with our cutthroat and sockeye.
