This is not a secret lake. The lake is not listed within the Grant County lakes. Lake is ‘Hilltop’ lake, located off Silica road exit 143, near the Gorge Amphitheater.
This lake is a private lake which one must book your time on via Redd’s fly shop in the Yakima Canyon River Road area. They only allow 6 peeps a day on the lake. To go with a guide is $500. To go solo is $150/angler.
Lake has LMB up to 8 lbs. pics available via the fly shop.
Arrived at lake 0830. Going out from launch, if you go to far right, this is the deepest part of lake, @ 12-18’ depth. Has a rocky bottom in this area. The rest of lake is 3-6’ deep, and mud, some weeds. It is fly fishing only. We were set up with poppers in the AM, floating line, 6-7 wt rods. During high sun, we went to a 7 ips sink tip, with large articulated steamers.
I had high hopes after landing a small but decent LMB of maybe 1 lb , within 3rd cast.
Then it was a dink fest for the next 10 hours. I caught many LMB, but all were about 6”, good grief.. did catch my 1st Crappie, x3. One was quite good size.
Trip was a gift for my buddie’s 60th birthday. Luckily he pulled out 2 decent LMB in his 10 hour stay in a float tube. — along with prob 40 dinks. (Soggy bottom mountain boys). 1 fish was maybe 2 lbs, other prob 3 lbs. both on poppers, cast toward shoreline. He fished via float tube, I was in my Pram.
Would be a nice place to hit maybe closer to Spring spawn. Not quite what I had hoped, but good time with friend, and at least the dinks were biting.
