A bittersweet weekend, my last shot at coho in Puget Sound this year, but also a super fun Saturday and Sunday with two great groups of anglers.

Saturday Rob Holman and I hosted the winners of our Scuttlebutt Brewery drawing. I was really happy to have two retired army vets, Reynaldo and Richard, brothers no less, on board for a day of fishing. We met at the Edmonds sling at 7am and had 5 lines in the water by 745am. Filling out the boat was Eric, head brewer for Scuttlebutt. Awesome to have him on board and learn more about the amazing beers they make.

We ran two rods on the downriggers, two rods on sliding weights down the downrigger cables, and one Deep Six off the back end. Started the day at the border of Area 10 and worked down the oil docks, later in the day ran down to Shilshole and trolled back with the wind – which there was a lot of Saturday! Not the roughest I’ve been out on but bumpy enough. Everyone had their game on and we pounded the water until 4pm.

We fished the water column from 35 feet or so down to 110 feet. Our fish came scattered, no solid bite and no particular depth. Trolling speed was around 3 to 3.2mph, with and against the outgoing tide.

Finally tally was 3 in the boat and 3 lost. The big fish pushed 8-10 pounds.

After fishing we all headed over to the Scuttlebutt restaurant in Everett for excellent food and of course, beer. We wrapped up the day at the Scuttlebutt taproom for a personal tour from Eric of the brewery and lots of free swag for Ray and Richard.

One of the best days of fishing I’ve ever had. So much fun to be able to share my boat with a couple great retired vets and learn all about beer from Eric. Thanks to everyone that entered the Scuttlebutt drawing. We’ll have to do it again next year!

Nice job getting your guests onto fish. There will be silvers for a while longer in Area 10 and it is open until Oct 31 for silvers and chum.
