Launched at First light out of Porcupine Bay with my buddy Mike. We motored over to a weed bed at the south end of Porky. I located a rockpile in about 35 FOW that appeared to be holding fish. Using a black jig head with a 3.5 inch perch swimbait we boated 7 nice 20 inch keepers in about 15 minutes. The bite died shortly thereafter so we headed up the Arm to another deep hole near buoy 1. It took us awhile but we caught about 27 more eyes; mostly on a jigging rap in 50-60 FOW. Most were dinks but we did catch one keeper 15 inch eye. I also caught my first burbot of the fall season. It must haver been an advanced scout for the rest of the herd. I caught so many burbot last winter I lost count. I am hoping some of my buddies can share in the bounty; last winter I caught more than all of them combined. Mind you I was not even targeting them. Lastly I hooked and lost a smallie boat side that had to have been between 6 & 7 lbs. I saw her jump and throw my jig three feet from the bow. Oh well.
