Fished on both Thursday 10/8 and Friday 10/9 with my 23 yo son. He always catches fish because he uses a dropshot rig with nightcrawlers and a small hook. So he catches perch and sunfish all day, sometimes over 20. I try for bass using all sorts of stuff, including plastics and crankbaits and spinnerbaits. I generally catch a couple of fish, but nothing great.

On Friday, we were fishing down by Vasa Park and my son pulled up a 19" smallmouth bass on his perch rig. Fantastic fight, I was afraid he'd lose what was clearly a huge fish. But we got it in the boat and he got a round of applause from 3 or 4 workers at the pumping station. I've added a pic of his catch and also me with my best catch of the day, lol. It was comical that the baby perch thought it could swallow a crankbait as big as itself.

Tell your son to fillet the first perch he catches then using chunks sized to eliminate the tiny perch on his two hook droper rig for bait. After using perch for bait hell want to use the rest of his worms for chum. He will catch every type of fish in the lake wont have to replace bait very often and perch meat outfishes worms in any lake with perch in it including the potholes, lake washington, American lake as well as samamish; it is true give it.
