Took advantage of the 1 day weather window and spent Veteran's Day on Cranberry Lake in Deception Pass State Park. I probably spent more time watching the NAS Whidbey jets fly overhead than I did watching my lines. I love fishing this lake if for no other reason to enjoy watching the jets.

Cold morning, temps hovering around freezing to start the day. Cranberry can be very weedy in the warmer months, but early spring, and late fall like today, it's not too bad unless you are out in front of the dock. The fish didn't seem to be in that area anyway, so I really didn't have any issues with weeds. I was though only fishing a few feet down.

The hot lure for the morning was the Elgin Fishing God's Tooth Spoon in 50/50 gold/chrome, set to fast action. Right around 1.5 mph seemed to be the ideal speed this morning.

The action wasn't light's out hot, but once I found the spot on the lake most of the fish seemed to be hanging out, it was constant, steady action with the added bonus of the Whidbey air show to make it just a fantastic morning.

Video shows some of the action from this morning.

What a great way to spend Veteran's Day! I get a real kick out of the jets flying overhead. One techie question: is there a reason you leave the split ring on the front end of the Gods Tooth spoon? I have been taking it off and attaching the duo lock directly to the Gods Tooth.

Definitely recommend leaving the split ring on and attaching the snap to it. Maximizes the action of the God's Tooth.

Haven't been to Cranberry in a long time but past memories of fishing there are great. I have never caught one but I was told there are some nice brown trout in the lake also.

Think I get a little more action leaving it on

was supposed to be a reply to Ben. There are browns in there, Ive caught a few, but they are smart and there isnt many. Ive seen an 8lb come out of there before, but Ive never got into a big one like that

Great report josh!
I must be doing something wrong though. I have never been able to catch anything out of cranberry in all of the years I’ve fished it!!

Thanks! It can be tough with all of the weeds, early spring and late fall I usually have better success there.

You mentioned "other warm water species". I seen perch and bass (actually quite a few bass including some big ones in a huge maze of good bass habitat!). Are there bluegills or crappie?

I believe just bass and perch.
