My brother, over from Stanwood Wa., and I launched at about 8;15 a.m.
on Sept 3, 1998. We motored directly to the outlet canal and using 1/8
oz. jig heads with ice blue jigs and a small piece of night crawler. The
action started immediately. Within 2 hours we were trying to find a
color they wouldn't hit on. We released all fish except 1 4 1/2 lb.
Walleye and 4 Bass. 1 Bass was a 4 lbs. and the other 3 right at 3 lbs.
We released over 30 Bass anywhere from 1 to 4 lbs. and 5 Walleye all
under 18 inches. All fish kept were consumed that night. They were
enjoyed by the family and grand kids.
The following day produced more of the same. This time we started in
the canal entering Long Lake. About 20 Bass were caught ranging from 1
to 3 lbs. Walleye were few and far between. Only 3 caught all under 18
inches. With our taste for fish still satisfied from the previous day,
all fish were released.
It should be noted that when fishing these canals, do have a good
electric trolling motor and fully charged battery. The current will
drive you right into the bank and or rock cliffs. Also remember, when
you hit a another lake, keep right drifting through that new lake which
has another canal going out of it. Great fishing and scenery. Just leave
some fish for the next person to enjoy because that next person will
probably be me !!!
