Started off great. Had a 50/50 nickel and brass Lurh Jensen dodger and matching God’s Tooth spoon with tuna corn flat lined with 1/2 oz lead going around 1.8 mph. Just as I was getting the other line in (fishing with the significant other) first pole goes off. While reeling in the fish the other line goes off. Didn’t even get to lower the down rigger ball yet. All I could see was the clip dancing in the air. That was on a Arrow flash dodger in nickel and brass with a perch God’s tooth. With my fishing buddy busy, I decided to fight the one I had on already since it felt like a good one. Got it close to the boat and it takes a dive straight down pulling drag. Despite letting it take line it earned its freedom. Sadly the other one got off as well. Reset and spun back around only to get ignored.
Went quiet all of a sudden and started to swap out gear and change bait. Got nothing for a good hour and a half. All these questions start popping up in my mind: should I change speed, rebait, change type of lures, moved to another spot, change trolling depth, etc? Don’t know if it was the change in location or the gear which got the boat fishy however I finally got consistent action with the rigs set up in the pictures. The pink wedding ring with slightly more attention from the crowd. Blue and silver God’s Tooth put in its share of work. Kept a few and released the smaller ones or the ones not allowed for retention. Called it a day with enough for a few meals. One of the things I did notice today was maybe a longer set back helped ~125ft or more and longer leader length at about 16 inches. It also could just be coincidence, who knows?
