Five of us went to Fish Lake yesterday for some yellow perch. We fished there one week ago (2/3/21) and all but one of the four of us that trip got our limits, and our friend who didn't limit out was ice fishing for the first time. Today the action was very slow, and we wound up fishing for almost 7 hours. We started in the same area (~43 deep) where we did well the previous week and only got the occasional fish. We moved to another spot and did better, but still very slow fishing. The prior week I would spot large schools of perch moving through, but we only saw small schools come through all day. A third spot was fished off a slope and the action was more steady, but still not lights out. All told, two of us finished with 23 keepers, another had about 20, and the other two anglers caught around 18 perch each. We also caught a number of small perch and some small rainbow that went back to grow larger. We used mostly Swedish Pimples or tungsten jig heads tipped with mealworms, maggots, nightcrawlers or perch eyes. It was a good day but not a great day.
Thankfully the sun was out most of the day, so even with temps starting around 15 degrees it was pretty comfortable all day.
