From viewing maps, I always liked the look of Spring Canyon and felt it was finally time I gave this section of Roosevelt a try for the first time.
It did not disappoint! Arrived at the launch around 8 ish and fished til after 4. Despite coming up with a goose egg on kokanee, the trout action made up for it with interest. Finished the day with zero kokanee but got a limit of large hatchery rainbows and scores more as I kept my pursuit for kokanee. Was very pleased to catch a 50/50 batch of native and hatchery rainbows with over 16 of those fish surpassing 20 inches in length...

All the fish were very healthy and eating well and the native fish were ultra strong fighters that really give you a run for your money.
As with the week before, I am pleased to see these kinds of numbers of native fish and look forward to fishing this area again and getting more familiar.

Tight lines everyone and think Spring.

Were you fishing shorelines or deep water? How deep were you fishing?

Found the fish higher in the water column at Spring Canyon and anywhere from near shore to hundreds of feet out. As I have mentioned before wherever you can find fish jumping, head to em it could be out in the middle or up close. I like to do a lot of observation. In time you get an eye for what to look for based on fish activity and action you have in different areas under an array of conditions. I would be keeping my trolling depth to just below the surface and down to 15 feet at Spring Canyon. This may apply up river as well, especially as the water comes down.
