Goodwin used to get planted with 5k rainbows in December/January, 20-30k each of cutthroat and rainbow fry June - October, and another plant of 18k rainbows in October. For some reason about 3 years ago they stopped the 18k plant in October. The lake has always been tough due to the sheer amount of insect life in the lake, the fish are never hungry, but since they stopped the October plant, it's been specially tough trout fishing. It's close by me, and I didn't feel like traveling far, so I decided to give it a shot anyway.

Arrived about 7:30 and did a lap around the south end of the lake without a bite and hardly a mark showing on the sonar. As I completed my lap, I noticed that swallows were starting to buzz the surface. Normally when I see this, it means a hatch is happening. I headed back towards the very south end of the lake from the launch area, brought my lines up to between 5-7 feet, and quickly started getting into fish. In the next hour I didn't go very long without getting some type of action. A lot of hits that didn't stick, some fish that got off, and 6 that made it to the net (I released one that was maybe 10-11 inches) there were about 8 boats total on the water, split in half between those chasing smallmouth, and the others trolling for rainbows.

One 1 line that got most of the action I had a size 6 green Doc Spratley fly 16 inches behind a sling blade dodger, and on the other line a olive Woolley Bugger 16 inches behind a Mack's Double D dodger. Surface temp was just under 50, and the speed that seemed to get the bites was between 1.5 - 1.7 mph.

All in a all a fun morning on the lake. Video below shows the action from the morning.
