Well had a chance to get away and do some walleye fishing on Friday with my good fishing buddy and son Amos, got to Porcupine Bay around 7 am launched and went up river to above buoy 5 started trolling bottom walkers and smiley blades with slow death hooks baited with nightcrawlers, first 5min "bam" 18 incher in the boat next 10 min two more, fished 25 -30ft of water in morning then fished 15-24ft of water in afternoon, came home with 21 gators from 16-22 inches, it was a little windy at times but just fished with the wind, most fish caught was going up river against current, called it a day around 7pm and headed back to the launch. We did try throwing jigs for awhile but came up empty handed. Well I think I covered all the details, as always Tight Lines and Keep Reelin!! This is my moto, "You Don't Know Unless You Go" Best wishes fishing "The Gator"!!

Any help would be appreciated, I’m headed to porcupine bay tomorrow for the first time. Is there a boat launch fee, and can u boat camp anywhere near there? We are coming from the tri-cities and want to make this a memorable first outing in the boat. Hope to catch the elusive Wally :)

Fanboy 4242, yes there is a launch fee of 8.00 dollars, pay by phone at fee station, there is a couple of Indian camp grounds on the south shore that I saw camp trailers in when we came back from buoy 5 today, the water is way down but plenty of shore camping is available, but you can't have a open fire, anything else I can help you with, let me know

Looks like a great day on the water! Headed to porcupine bay tomorrow AM. Is it tricky navigating up to buoy 5? Any hazardous spots to watch out for? Never been all the way up there. Thanks!

Klamath06, here goes, when launching out of Porcupine Bay you will head up river, you will come to the narrows stay in middle of river, when coming out of the narrows, stay to your right in middle of river, there will be a island in front of you as you are coming out of the narrows with a green marker that is high and dry, that is buoy 3, continue up river around island staying in middle of the river, as you pass around island staying in the middle river will bend a little to right and then straighten out, just upriver from that river will make another 90° to the right, while making your turn to right stay in middle of the river, then the river will make a turn to the left, stay in the middle, long straight away from there staying a little to the right of the middle of the river, you will come to a buoy maker in the middle of the river, gradually start making a turn to the left big sandy bank on left side of river , stay in the channel which should be about 20-30ft deep heading up river, you should be able to motor up to big long sandy bank straight ahead of you, stay along that bank until you come to buoy 5 maker on the tip of that long sandy bank, here is where you need to pay attention to your fish finder, it will get very shallow to your left while rounding buoy 5, while you are rounding buoy 5 stay towards right side of river while making a gradual turn to your left around buoy 5, main channel is about 30ft deep, there is a big shallow flat to your right, trolling smiley blades and just two chartreuse beads, or red beads in front of slow death hooks with 3/4 of a nightcrawler, nightcrawler should twirl in water if hooked right, " important "!!! If the crawler is not twirling slow you will not trigger those walleygators to strike, all the fish we caught engulfed our nightcrawlers. Good luck to you ?? As always Tight Lines and Keep Reelin!! Gator.
