The kids didn't want to go out in the rowboat, and the weather looked good, so I scrambled my gear together and took out the kayak in the late afternoon for it's first run in 2021. Langlois is a home lake for me, so it's easy to do spur of the moment and I usually don't get skunked. It was a great day to be on the water! I was trolling a little deeper than most folks in search of hold over rainbow trout. I was trolling a light deep six, a uv flasher, and wiggle hootchie with shoepeg corn and scent. This is my go to set-up for this lake all season and for any daphnia eating rainbow/kokanee. I was able to get one nice rainbow in the boat early off in the southwest quadrant of the lake trolling while the sun was behind me, but had trouble getting strong hook ups the rest of the evening, even with all my coaxing strategies at hand. I had lots of nibbles and drive-bys; I probably need to check my hooks before I go out again! Most of the larger fish I marked were towards the center of the lake; somewhere between 20 - 30 feet. One gentleman slayed a bunch of smaller rainbows on the surface trolling some kind of a green wolly fly, it was fun to watch.
