Met my brother at the launch at 7am and set out for a Father's Day outing. Goodwin can be fickle, but was hoping to get off the water before the fleet of water hooligans arrived and turned the lake into a wash tub. Fortunately I've fished the lake enough over the years to have a good idea of what the fish wanted and where they should be.
I had quite a bit of action to start, but my landing ratio was pretty poor, it felt like kokanee fishing with all of the fish that got off. I was starting to get a bit worried about finishing my limit before the party started on the lake. Fortunately, after a brief lull in the action, I decided to move out of the area I was fishing and go to plan B. Plan B got me back into fish quickly, and I was able to get off the lake before things got crazy.
I was fishing an Olive Woolly Bugger and a Green Doc Spratley fly 16 inches behind a dodger, one line I kept 5 feet off of the bottom, and the other about 15 feet down. Both go about equal action. Speed was about 1.5 - 1.7 to trigger bites.
All in all a fun morning with some action and some nice plump fish.
Video shows the fish landed for the morning.
