You know you are getting old when you want to start a post by saying, ...I remember back when...... Crabbing is not the same as decades past as evident of the closures in lower 12 and 13, not to mention the number of days you can crab. With that say, it is hard not to enjoy a day on Hood Canal taking it easy crabbing. Went out Monday afternoon. Forgot they are chip sealing HWY 101 and was impressed with myself with how I handled the delays, and fricken rocks. My last crab outing was the pits and I didn't know if I would go out again this season. With my vacation coming to an end, I just had to head out.

I started around 1:30 and stopped around 5:15PM. Plan was to be out until 9. First pull had a keeper and a soft shell. Also had some keeper rock. Was the best pull of the day and only dungy in the box! I did encounter many soft shell crab both dungy and rock. Hope the season does not close early due to a molt. I had taken salmon gear to fish sunset but thunder heads were forming over the Olympics and did not want to risk any lightning (Happens when you know someone killed by lightning and have experienced strikes so close that the hair on my body was awakened). Took home 1 dungy and 5 rock. As I stated in a prior post, I never kept rock in prior years. Times change ?

It was an enjoyable day. Only encountered a few other boats crabbing. Not sure if I’ll get out again this season. But I saw that after every trip ??
