Finding the Kokanee was the hardest part of our two day trip. We spent all day Friday trolling around the islands looking for schools. The Kokanee are scattered and haven’t schooled up much yet. We did find several areas around the islands that held individual Kokanee and underneath them, lake trout. Once located, the trick was to find combinations that would work.
Saturday morning we left real early to find our spot and devise a combination.
Flashers with 20 inch leaders seem to do the trick. Red flies with tipped with corn helped us achieve our goal.
Although we marked lots of fish in the 20 foot column we found willing takers in the 30 foot column.
These fish are chunky and decent fighters reminiscent of the Kokanee salmon we used to have in the Columbia river system down by Grand Coulee Dam.
