Fished the Skagit again, this time with my wife, brother and nephew. We fished most the day. Lots of people out doing the same.
Didn't get too creative on location. Saw fish rolling, so we anchored up and stayed put pretty much the whole time. Main thing is that the fish tend to run pretty close to the banks. We fished anywhere from 10 to 50 feet away from the bank, with about 20-30 being the most productive at our location.
Morning was definitely the hot bite. We started around 6:00 and had pretty much non-stop action until 11:00. I could hardly keep up with baiting hooks, untangling lines, setting gear, and netting fish, etc. It was a blast. At one point we had two fish on, and one already in the net that I was dealing with. Wow, what fun!.
Method used was plunking spin n glows with sandshrimp. These fish are masters at picking you hook, so I secure the shrimp with miracle thread so they at least have to work at it. Even at that, they are magicians.
We caught most our fish between 6-11, but picked up a couple more before 1:00. After 1:00, things went stone cold and we had very few additional bites and no hookups.
Brought 10 fish home. Would have had one more, but I made a blunder and lost my stringer with a fish on it...hopefully someone downstream found it floating by and got a free catch.
Great day of fishing. Have fun out there!
