First chance to get out after catching covid. Yes. I did get vaccinated last spring. Launched solo out of Porcupine Bay and headed upriver at first light. I spent hours jigging deep and shallow and caught about 10 dinks. I then trolled crankbaits on leadcore, first time, as well as bottom bouncers and smile blades. Picked up about 10 more eyes and half a dozen dink smallies. At this point it was early afternoon and I would have rated the day as a 3. The last spot I tried was a deep hole near buoy 1. I tied on a fire tiger jigging rap and after a couple of casts I located a school of smalleyes. Granted they were mostly dinks, but I finished the day by catching 20 on 20 casts. I probably could have continued catching them but I thought 20 in a row was a good way to end the day. I only caught and released one 16 incher so nothing worth taking a picture of.

My wife and I are fully vaccinated. I think she caught it from her hair dresser and I caught it from her. Thankfully we didn't need any hospital care, just suffered through it. For me it was a severe sinus headache, chills and all my joints ached for about 3 days. I recovered in about a week, my wife took twice as long.

I was actually using a Johnson version of a jigging rap. They are about half the price of a Rapala and have better hooks. I just started using them about this time last year. I watched a couple of Tom Boley YouTube videos and thought I would give it a try. It's definitely an arm workout but they work great in deep water. Last September I caught 18 on 20 casts on the Arm. So this year I wasn't surprised but I chuckled everytime I caught another one.

Once again you're the guy out there getting it done. Guess I will check out some Tom Boley u-tubes. Trying to break loose and find my way to the water. Had no idea retirement could be so ruff.

He's a fellow cheesehead and does a ton of walleye fishing. He's also the reason I use casting spoons. My buddies think I'm crazy for using all of these other techniques but it is a challenge and who doesn't like to challenge themselves every once in a while.
