For the last 6+ mos, it has been an an almost daily occurrence for my middle son to ask me, “Mommy, when are you going to wake me up and say Danny, Danny, guess what? We’re going to go fishing at Fish Lake!” He has been waiting in anticipation for his turn since last year when I surprised our oldest with an early morning fishing trip. Welp, the day finally arrived! After nearly blinding my son with the camera light as I attempted to record his response to me waking him up with the line he’d repeated so may times this past year, we were on our way! We stopped for some hot cocoa and breakfast , spent between 4 and 5 hours chasing down fish (catching 1 trout, 12 perch- releasing 3 of them). Our most productive bait for the day was a wedding ring tipped with a worm. I added a wiggle fin for additional action and seemed to attract the perch. In hindsight, I should have slid it closer to the worm for faster action. We also tried our mini-troll downrigger and caught a fat 11 inch perch, 4 1/2 inches from belly to dorsal fin. It seemed to like our maglip 2.0 (rusty crayfish pattern). We finished the day at 59er Diner for a burger and shake. I ended up pan frying the trout and perch, soaking them in milk and dredging them in a honey cornbread mix with a little salt & pepper. The results were delicious. Fun memories were made that day! Looking forward to our next outing at Fish Lake and hoping to one day catch an elusive Triploid or Brown!
