This report is for the China Bend area. We fished a few miles downstream again this weekend. It only rained Friday night and was quite warm the rest of the weekend. The water appeared to be down 10 to 15 ft.
I marked plenty of fish in the early mornings and evenings but not during the day. We tried for walleye and Kokanee during times of boredom but only ended up with a 22 inch trout.
We only had 4 bites all weekend running 3 poles. We brought a 35 incher to shore. That little dude was strong, one head shake and it popped the rock weight off. Had another one hit so hard that it broke the rod holder! I'll be upgrading to a stronger rebar concoction next time! Oh man I wish I got that one but it got loose!
The highlight of the day wasn't really fishing but rockhounding! Since the water was way down the gravel beds were newly exposed and washed. I found a big red agate and some druzy fragments. My girlfriend found some 5 square foot boulder full of druzy geode shelves and she chipped a bunch of those out.
What worked:
Fishing the edge of the main channel in the sand
Squid
Rockhounding tools
55ft
What didn't work:
Garden stakes (broke wth?)
Shad
Water being down seemed to have an effect.
