So first disclaimer is that there wasn't a spot for coho salmon on here so just put other!
Got an invite for an early morning shot at chasing some of those finicky coho salmom that flood into Lake WA in September so fortunately my work load looked light this morning so headed out to meet my friend at Warren Magnusen park at daybreak!
Thanks to some intel from DJ Butler we headed over to Moss bay north of Hunt's Point and immediately started seeing jumpers and fish porpoising all around us, Marked some schools down around 50 to 70 feet so trolled through those for a while with no love! Moved north for a bit but when the screen went blank moved back down to Moss bay. I switched over to a 3" Brads cut plug stuffed wth cured herring and an 8" blinking flasher and just as we went through a school at 60 feet the rigger popped and it was fish on! It came in pretty easily so thought I had hooked a sockeye but as soon as that hook nosed critter saw us he went ballistic and thankfully were able to get him into the net!
Bled him out and put on ice we went back to it but after seeing DJ out there about 11:30 it start getting choppy and work was starting to get busy so called it a day. Not a stellar day but happy to come home with one which I filleted back at the launch and split it wiht my buddy so we would both be enjoying a fresh caught coho salmon dinner! As we were pulling out saw a boat launching that looked full of gill nets so were glad to have got out before they had deployed them! See you on the water!
