Actually fished 3 days, Thur/Fri/Sat. Caught 3 Thursday afternoon, one a native that had to be released. Friday we limited in 2 1/2 hrs plus bonus redbands that were released, then added another 6 Sat in about 2hrs or so including a dandy redband that really tested my gear.

As always, we were trolling with Kekeda flies tipped with worm using leadcore with 50' fluorocarbon leaders 150' - 155' behind the boat. On Friday, the 'bows wanted the perch pattern, and Saturday perch and black/orange worked equally well.

As a speed troller we were never below 2.8 - 3mph all 3 days.

The native redband in the pics was pulling drag at 155' before I could get the rod out of the holder. It continued to do that as I fought it up to the boat where it would make 20' - 30' runs. Only way I could get it close to the boat was to submerge 4' of the rod then lift up slowly, second time around I was able to net it, safely remove the hook and send it back. Gorgeous fish!

Nice fish. I need to get out and find the the good fishing spots my brother Ron (AKA Captain Ron) usually go to but have not gone fishing for quite awhile as Ron was real sick. He passed away Oct. 3 rd. I know its going to be a very emotional first trip out without Ron, but I need to go as he really wanted us to go out one more time before he passed. He always said Roosevelt is the best fishing in the state. --- Two Brothers # 1 RIP ---Your Bro Terry

I am terribly sorry to hear of Ron's passing. :-(

Although we've never met, I would be honored to offer my time and boat to help you reconnect with an activity you and your brother enjoyed together - fishing Lake Roosevelt.

Please accept my sincerest condolences.

Hewesfisher, way to go! Sounds like your tried and true methods are still working for you. Really fun when you hook one of those that was just born mean. Hope we see more of them.

Nice fish Mr. Hewes ( I just recently noticed your name on the hewes site??). Two brothers, I have a good idea where you're at. Only you can make the decision when you're ready to go out, I lost my hunting/fishing buddy, and it took me 3 years before I could go out again (and was very emotional). You'll be glad when you finally do. Sorry for your loss!! And awesome on you Phil for making such a great offer!!
