2021 Recreational Bottom Fishing Recap.

The long rainy cold winter in the pacific northwest gets trees more greener, but gets most of the fisherman depressed. On Dec 1, 2021 the WDFW shut down all coastal rivers for fishing until the end of March of 2022 (no steelheading allowed), there isn’t really any action going on anywhere. Really don’t know what to do with myself with no fishing, I went through my fishing trip photos, and thought I should share catches from the South Jetty in Westport Washington.

A small fishing town on the coast of Washington, Westport is a wonderful place to visit. The marina offers charter boat services, the beautiful beaches bring lots of crowds, and there is “the jetty.” The gigantic man-made structure that stretches one and half miles out on the water is breathtaking, and it provides home to many marine lives.

The jetty attracts so many lives, I believe it is one of the best fisheries in WA. But fishing the jetty is not for everybody. It gets really tough with endless snags and the brutal hike on the jetty often makes anglers not come back. Also, falling accidents can be deadly. If any of you want to try out, make sure to pack light and be ready to hike about 30mins each way in-and-out.

Living just down the highway from Westport(about an hour drive for me), I hit up the jetty last year every chance I got. It took me a while and numerous skunks until I really ‘figured out’ the jetty. However, once I got the hang of it, I was running into feeding frenzies of rockfishes and huge lingcods. Those catches/fights made me feel so alive, I did whatever it takes to meet those fish. Rather than complaining about the hike, I started to embrace the jetty hike. Had fallen in love with that place.

Below are some pictures from my jetty trips. Thank you for reading and I hope that some of you get out there sometime and catch a fatty! Happy NEW YEAR everybody!!!
