Took Glenn and Mike out in my Tracker to the Arm. We were on the water by 0715 and headed down river from the Porcupine Bay launch to the area around the grave yard and Mccoy's. All three of us had an eye in the boat within 10 minutes. We had a steady bite till 1130. Blade baits and jigs worked extremely slow produced all morning. Silver blades and a black jig with a motor oil red flake grub were what I had the best luck with. 35 to 55 FOW was the best depth range. We also went up to buoy 5 and worked our way down but we only managed about 10 dinks doing that. All told we caught 60 eyes and kept 39. We gave 10 to some friends and cleaned 29 for ourselves. We also released several 20 to 22 inch female. No burbot and no perch. The temperature never got above freezing and we were chipping ice out of our guides all day.

Nice job Mark. Sounds like a fun and productive day. Ty for the report. Got a tip for you on ice in the guides, especially when jigging for eyes. Get yourself a couple of the small cans of wd40 and spray on your eyes of your rods. It will help you to stay ice free for 6-8 casts when its below freezing. Tight lines!

*Keep applying the wd40 all day, as I mentioned it will be good for every 6-8 casts or more then reapply.

Tracker? I thought you had a grey lund?

Morrow - The Lund belongs to my buddy Glenn. I have a grey Tracker Targa 18. All of my buddies and me have boats so we just try to rotate whose we use.

70+ walleye in two trips over four days? One has to wonder how long a fishery can survive when people are hauling out dozens and dozens of fish per trip. Only the WDFW can be happy about overharvesting like this, and they want the walleye gone.

I was wondering when I would get a comment like this. We only harvest a very specific slot size of eyes. We release the small ones and the large females. Since the state changed the catch limit the quality of the fish being caught has actually gone up. They don't necessarily have a huge forage base in Roosevelt so thinning them out actually increases the quality. I personally only keep 4 or 5 eyes for myself and that is only once in awhile. I probably release a couple of thousand small, mostly, and large eyes every year. If you want to critique someone go nag at the people cleaning those little 10 to 12 inchers and the 22+ inch hens.
