Decided to give American Lake a try, since we were craving some fresh perch for a fish fry. We got to the lake about 1:30, just as the sun burned off the fog and started to warm things up. As we motored out of the launch (N. Ft. Lewis) we saw two fishermen netting a nice fish. As we came along side, we asked them to hold it up. WOW! It was a very respectable rainbow! We gave them a "Well done" and headed off to find some perch. We were temped to try for trout, since I have been struggling to catch winter trout, but decided to stay on the hunt for perch. We stopped at the mouth of the cove so I could get my rod rigged up, and while I was messing around, Shinna lowered her drop shot rig down with a chunk of night crawler and within a couple of minutes she laughed "Fish on".. Really? Shinna is a fish master...I am not worthy to be in her company..she out fishes me 10 to 1 all the time. Anyway, after a good fight, we net a respectable rainbow! So much for me "struggling" to catch winter trout.
We motored over to the north end of the lake and found willing biters of perch. Using drop shot rigs with chunks of night crawlers we soon had a half bucket of nice fat perch.. We were just about to wrap up the day when a familiar boat came toward us. It was our good friends Glen and Cami! It was so nice to see them again, and to hear that they did well too.
All in all, it was a great day. The weather was perfect and the the fish were willing. Great fishing with my best friend (even though she's always catching way more than me) and seeing our old friends again was a bonus.
We plan on heading back soon and actually trying to some fatty trout...I'm sure Shinna will put on a clinic. LOL!
