Jedi - The water should clear up pretty quickly. As a side note, the tribe has nets setup below Little Falls dam to snare walleyes. I have heard they may have caught upwards of 9000 from the Arm already. This is apparently all about re-establishing salmon and steelhead so they want to thin out the predators. They are apparently selling the walleye meat at local grocery stores. I say boycott that and go catch your own.

Ty Mark for the intel. I had heard about the nets on the San Poil. I was not aware of the ones below LF. I was also aware of the move to reduce predation from eyes but did not expect this dramatic of a reduction in numbers so quickly. It was hard enough with the reduction in number from angling with the rise in walleye popularity... I remember 30 years ago standing on a point during low water in the arm and literally seeing the tips of the tails of walleyes in shallow water, there were so many. Now a guy is lucky to catch even a fraction of what he used to.

Would like to know the source of the reports on tribal netting. My "reliable source" tells me the tribe hasn't been catching "much of anything" in the nets and the tribe doesn't sell fish. Glad to hear the water is improving at least a little. Planning to go take advantage of the 62 degree forcast for wednesday and try out the new jet prop parts I screwed up on the last attempt.

All rumors in regards to the Tribal gill netting walleye, just irresponsible false reporting. The only netting would be for pike removal which devour all species with disregard and a threat all responsible anglers should be concerned about. Back up the irresponsible commets with facts, proof. You don't have and won't find any because their isn't any. Ignorance isn't a bad thing just means you don't know, purposed slandering is on the other side of the spectrucm and a reflection of hatred for no reason and has no place with ethical anglers. Fact is the Tribes are responsible fishery managers working for all species for all users.

Apex, I appreciate your commentary and agree. I have heard about netting for years but have never seen any. The personal intel I received and believed was from one of the techs. and that was on the San Poil where the walleyes were taking a major toll on the koke fingerlings. For years many of us have commented on thin snakey walleye in Roosevelt which to me was obvious that there's just not enough feed to support populations of robust fish like we have on the Snake and lower Columbia. There is a definite balance that needs to be made and I have greatly benefitted from and appreciated the work the tribes have done for the Roosevelt fishery. And I too encourage people to do research to have a view of the bigger picture.

The launch at Porcupine is still usable and should be for the foreseeable future. It's no secret that certain groups would love to see all of the eyes out of Roosevelt. Based on the number of trout I
find in the stomachs of the eyes we clean, they are not feeding on them frequently. The eyes are feeding on perch primarily. The number of pike in the Arm is extremely small and has been even before the nets were being used. There are very few weedbeds in the Arm where pike would try to spawn and all of those will be high and dry till June, well after any pike would be spawning. The disinformation about a lot of things is very prevalent, we just spent 2 years living with.

Either way, gill netting, pike or loose lips this fishery sure is MARKed and crowed do to a select few who act like teenage girls on social media.
Do any of you remember this fishery from back in the late 80s-90s I sure do. Social media has really affected it much more than pike.The more it’s broad casted the more people show up. Most Weekend warriors don’t release the big ones either. What’s the effects of that since the amount fishing there now have tripled or more.Giving a few pointers and vague area tips is different than needing to constantly blab everything and negatively impact the fishery. Case in point the talking is what caused this entire mis info debate. Give a few vague tips, share with your friends and kids and preserve this or any spots for those it means something too.

Well said chevlowe. I remember as a teenager riding my bicycle to Laughbon landing and fishing in the mid 1980's. I would never see anyone except for locals there. Even 10-15 years ago it wasn't too over populated. Now thanks to social media it will never be the same. Last spring I went back to that bay in march pre-spawn walleye season and there was 13 boats huddled together. I have never seen that before. Sad, society has changed to where they can't keep things to themselves and feel the need to brag.

Blaming everything on social media is quite narrow minded in my opinion. Has it had an effect...definitely, on everything. Anybody hunt Montana last year, frickin zoo but not due to social media or non-residents. Left-over tags in AZ, guaranteed, until two years ago. Fishing license sales in the mid-west up 40%+ last two years. Our outdoor recreation has bore the brunt of this... whatever you want to call what we have been under. I quit fishing the Forks area steelhead rivers 20 years ago because it turned into a driftboat race. Take solace in knowing that those "new" weekend warriors might keep an over if they find one, but probably don't understand how to catch enough fish at this time of year to have a significant impact (confirmed by the fish checker @ PB). They will mostly be one and done.

Walleye fishing is almost never easy, even this time of year. 95% of the water holds no fish. Spending time on the water and being willing to move and try new techniques can be the key to success. Knowing the forage base for Lake Roosevelt and specifically the Arm can help improve your success rate. Perch, crayfish and sculpins are the vast majority of what we find in the eyes gullet. That is what we try to mimic when fishing the Arm.
