Glenn took Greg and I out today. It took us 8 hours to catch 30 eyes, averaging 4 per hour. So today was a grind. We caught them on jigs, blade baits, jigging raps and I even caught one on a casting spoon. Everything was good for about 2 eyes and then we had to switch to something else. We had 5 areas that we worked hard to catch eyes. Cleaned 28 of those eyes. I released a 6 lb and a 3 lb hen. Glenn caught a 4 lb whitefish and we both caught a trout in the 3-4 lb range. Both slimers were released unharmed.

Wish I could have been there, 4 per hour is a bit of a grind but I would be happy with it right now.

Glenn and I are definitely having to put in the time to be successful. I think there are a lot more whitefish in the Arm right now but we just occasionally catch one. Kinda like trout.

Nice looking fish Mark! When do you think the water level will start coming up?

Morrow - The water level should stay about where it is until June. Lake Roosevelt has to be back up to full pool by July 4th. So usually in early June they start filling her back up.

Hey there Mark, I’ll actually be fishing over there got the first time in my boat in mid April. Is that typically a good time to try for walleye in the lower arm? Or have they all moved up to their spawning grounds by then? I’m for trial by fire on a first trip but a little insider knowledge never hurts??

Shark, anywhere from the south end of Porcupine Bay on up should hold fish. Just depends on whether or not you are trolling or jigging. The farther up you go the stronger the current; trolling anything but crankbaits is going to be tough. We have been hitting about 10 different areas every time we go trying to find active fish so don't hesitate to move. You can always try the same areas multiple times to see if any schools are working their way through. We have not found any magic baits so far this spring, the floors of our boats look like grub graveyards every trip. Last Saturday, everything worked for one or two eyes and then we had to change color or style of baits.

Awesome! Really appreciate the posts. So far I have two trips up there in the last two weeks, managed one walleye and a few trout but am starting to get a feel for the area. Considering fuel prices, just knowing putting time in to learn the area and get on fish makes it worth it!

Mark,
Any thoughts on the big river? Was thinking of spending a few days down at Grand Coulee and trying the Basin.

Part-time I would think that the eyes in Rufus should start moving up for the pre-spawn. That being said. I tried 3 or 4 times at Rufus last year
and had little success at least compared to previous years. That place had been a big fish haven. We did catch a bunch of trout last year although we were not trying to. I always launch at Seaton's Grove. I will probably try it towards the end of April.

Wondering if "W-Mark-1" got banned for putting out to much info?

Hey, Mark. Do you know how to reach the staff at nwfr? I tried the e mail address shown in their contacts in the website and it goes nowhere. After 16 days of no reports I am really wondering what is going on. Maybe you will have to post here in the comments section.

I don't know what is going on. It does seem quite strange.

I had made a report 2 weeks ago as well that still has not posted. And was going to submit another after it did.

I emailed Mike Carey this morning but haven't heard anything back yet. I have submitted 3 five star reports. The spawn is on and should go for about another month.
