Fished the 2022 Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby. Per usual, I Was the only kayak entered into the event :) This time though the only kayak tied for the top weight and took home 2nd place (not 1st, tie-breaker went to another angler0 Not too bad for a leg powered anger going up against a fleet of boats!

Fishing was strange on the lake all day. A few found something early, most either really struggled or were able to grind some fish. I have little spurts where I thought I was on to something, but then quickly reminded that I was not. What was consistent for me, and is consistent on any kokanee lake I have ever dropped a line in, are Elgin Fishing God's Tooth Spoons. My fish, and the other angler's fish that were the top weight for the day, were both caught on God's Tooth Spoons. I caught fish for the day as shallow as 4 feet and as dep as 45, and pretty much every depth in between, though 20-25 had the most action for me.

I wound up with 8 in the box, still 3 hours to fish before the weigh in closed, but I was hungry, tired, and satisfied with my morning. I was pretty sure I had a fish that might get me on the board, and I Was right!

If you have never fished the derby, I highly recommend it. Great event, a lot of great people enter it every year, and it's great for kids. Everyone comes home with a little something if they, want.

Below if is the video from the derby.
