"Caught" is the wrong term for the rating today. I hooked onto a lot of fish today. I lost more than landed fish. This must have been my worst landing ratio ever.
Started the day off on the opposite side of the lake today. Figure might as well continue with the jerkbait from last week. It didn't disappoint. I think within the first 5 mins, fish on! Landed a 2# LMB. A couple of casts later, I see these 3 dark large shadows come out from below and follow my lure. I pause and one of them grabs it. Set the hook and now I see it's 3 HUGE crappies. Dinner plate size attacking my lure. Crazy. I have it at boat side thinking if I should net this or dangle for a pic. I decide to dangle and before I could even lift, it comes right off.
I just kept going along the shoreline and was getting solid hookups. All of them feel like tanks, even those 1 pounders since they are getting a face full hooks. Makes it pretty fun. I lost 4 fish in a row after hooking up and reeling it near the boat. 3 LMB and 1 SMB. I could see all 4 of them after hooking up.
2 of them were solid fish. High 2s to maybe 3's. Landed a couple 1.5# or LMB afterwards, then continued to lose more fish.
I found the LMB today. They were all over. I lost the hot lure on an old rope that was too deep for me to grab. 2 of the trebles were buried, so broke that off. Forced me to change colors but they fish were still biting. Unfortunately, they still wont engulf it. Only grabbing the mid or rear hook. So I guess just a reaction strike?
I get another solid strike and I can see it's another large LMB. It had a same size buddy following it. I could see it was hooked on the lower jaw on the rear hook..... I'm surprised it stayed on. 3.41#
I tried a weightless worm for a bit when there was no breeze without a nibble. Also tried a small swimbait and landed 1 nice SMB. Then broke off on a hookset, which sent me packing.
So landed about 10, lost at least 10. My arm and wrist are sore from all that jerking.
