I took JT out to show him some of the better places on the Arm to take his pontoon. We headed up the Arm and caught some eyes. A motor oil red flake grub was once again the best combination. The overall fishing was slower than it has been but the quality was still very good. We caught 25 or so eyes and I cleaned 7 because that's all JT wanted, enough for a nice meal. The ones I cleaned were all right around 21 inches. One actually had a 7 inch eye in its stomach so your 3 or 4 inch grub/swimbait is not too big. The best fish of the day was a beautiful 10 lb hen I released. She was still full of eggs. It appears the spawn will be finished in the next week or two.

Morrow that sounds too much like work. I hardly ever keep any of the eyes we clean. I just enjoy getting out and sometimes take other people with me to show them how to fish the Arm.

Hey Mark, great fishing next to you on Friday. My buddy and i both learned a lot from the tutorial. After we saw you pulling cranks we went back to first spot and morning baits weren’t doing much so we switched to brown and black and blue ring tail worms and put @8 fishing in the boat in @45 minutes. See you out there again soon and thanks for all the info????

Peter, I noticed you heading back up; glad to hear you caught a few more. I was trying to show my buddy a few of the places we normally fish at this time of year and this water level. He is new to walleye fishing and I was showing him how to use the current to have the best presentation while jigging. Changing colors and styles of plastics throughout the day can be critical to being successful. My boat is always littered with numerous grub/swimbait carcasses as I try to figure out what color is working that day/time of day.

Mark, I would love to get a chance just to see your LITTERED boat. Can't say for sure what has been holding me back but I sure appreciate your reports as an encouragement to get after them. Keep it up.

Part-time, lots of watermelon and motor oil red flake grubs plus different types of perch swimbaits lately. I mainly use red and black colored jig heads. 3/8 oz is the weight I have been using all spring. First thing in the morning a chrome blade bait can also be very affective.
