Slow start today. Blue skies. No wind. Cotton floating everywhere.
Started off with a senko, then switched to dropshot and mixing in with swimbait on a new rod. Stayed with the dropshot mostly. In fact, all fish caught today were on the DS. In the first 1.5 hour, landed 1 dink SMB, 1 big perch and 1 rock bass. Then lost a ~2# SMB on the dropshot.
I go across the lake to the other side and find it's nice and breezy. Feels good and I'm hoping this stirs up some action. Now I dont know if it was the location or the wind but I started to get consistent bites all on the dropshot.
3 were in the 1# range but the other 6 ran 2# or more with 2 of them just shy of 3#. They were all scattered. Some holding tight to cover. Some roaming.
On the way back to the launch, I decided to stop off at Fart Hole and see if anything is there yet. This is way earlier in the summer for bites there normally but why not. Glad I did. Landed the biggest SMB of the day there @ 3.28#. This was a weird hookup. My hook pierced through the cheek and got caught in the net, which pulled the entire hook through. I couldnt back out the hook. I had to snip the line, remove the weight, then pulled the line through the cheek.
Every outing this year on Sam has produced a 3#er for me so far. They've all been at different areas of the lake too.
