Got out to Newman for a little bass fishing. I successfully caught some little bass. I was on the water before sun up. I didn't have high expectations being as it was a Monday after a beautiful weekend. Took about an hour and a half to catch the first fish. All of the carp are spawning so most of the better areas are all stirred up. I tried top water, chatter baits, tubes and a drop shot. Finally caught a 1 lb smallie on a choppo. The next one was the best of the morning. A 3 lb smallie that clobbered my choppo as it crossed over a sunken tree. That was the end of the top water bite. Switched to a wacky rigged senko on a drop shot and picked up 3 more dink smallies and 2 dink largemouths. I don't fish Newman often but it is a nice lake with a bunch of different types of cover.
