Been a few weeks since my last outing. Started off kind of rough with a noob mistake. I left my transom straps on when I was backing up the boat. I was wondering why I had to be so far in the water and the boat still isnt floating. Then remembered the straps.
I also needed to part the carpet on my bunk but turns out the stapler I have wont feed the SS staples. *sigh*
Started off with a topwater in the shady areas with zero action. I saw lots of surface activity though. I'm switching to a swimbait. My cast spooks a heron and it takes off. Lure hits the water and line is falling downwards. Damn bird crosses the line and is caught in it. Within a second or 2, the line brought off at the bird. It continues flying and looks like lure end sinks.
1st 1.5 hrs in and caught a couple nice perch and a couple dink SMB. Now I'm near FartHole so might as well toss something there and see what happens.
First pitch in with a dropshot and fish on! A nice 2# largie. Next cast fish on! A dink smallie. 3rd cast and fish on! 3.24# smallie. I'm wondering if it's the exact same smallie from previous trips.
I stayed there for a little over an hour. Hooked onto 11 bass.
2 largies both right at 2#. Confirmed different fish because of a wart on the tail.
2 smallies over 3#
1 smallie over 3# but it made an amazing jump and came off.
3 smallies around 2#
3 dink smallies.
The deepest one from here was at about 24'. It was clearly a spawned fish with a raw fin still. The others were shallower 12-16' and looked normal.
I stopped and scanned a couple deep points and didnt see anything on sonar. Hit a couple quick spots near the bank with only dinks. Called it a day.
As I'm packing up, we were being stalked by this predator. When we werent looking, it decided to join the party. I need to find a way to show size reference. When I have the fish on the deck, they look tiny, lol.
