Went surf fishing at Seabrook and Roosevelt Beach over the last 3 days. Caught multiple Redtails on Berkeley Gulp sandworms and my new favorite surfperch rig, a Big Hammer 1-3/4 inch grubs popular for Barred Surfperch in California with an in-line spinner blade in front on a Carolina rig. The surf here is quite heavy and the fish are farther out than on many other beaches, which means you should be using heavier gear. My rod is an 11' surf rod designed for striped bass fishing paired to a 6000 size reel spooled with 30lb braid and throwing 3 ounces of lead

I've fished a lot of surf perch over the years, but never though about using a in line spinner. That's pretty cool. So, how did you fish it? Did you actually cast it and retrieve or did you let it sit and let the surf action move it? I used a Lucky Craft in San Diego and had success there, but I've tried that up here and did not do very well at all.. Sand shrimp work the best, but I'm going to try the in line spinner grub next trip.
Thanks for the great report and idea.

Retrieve it slowly but fast enough that the blade is spinning, and make sure it doesn't get wrapped up in your main line
