A 3 AM start with my friend out of Deer Park, headed north to fish for giant behemoths. Started early in the morning Fishing in 60 feet of water. We moved around several times and finally found a hole, well over 100 feet deep. We had just a few bites when one finally took my herring. The hook was set and the fight was on. He wanted to stay down and I wanted him to come up. Three times over 20 minutes I managed to turn his head to the surface only to watch him return to the deeps. One last time his head was turned and I managed to get a glimpse slightly below the surface. We kept him in the water while we measured. Keeper? The slot limit is 50 inches to 63 inches. Success! The almost 60 inch fish was one more off my all time career bucket list.
