Found out the boat launch had opened early from a friend who lives on the lake. It had been closed due to reconstruction by WDFW. New concrete ramp, loading platform, and regraded parking lot. Wish it would have been paved though. Also, it's still a little shallow at the end of the ramp bowl.
With the ramp being closed most of the season, I thought the fish might be willing to play due to the lack of pressure.
Well, they were willing and there were quite a few. Fireman Bob and I caught our limits in about 4 hours. All were nice sized kokes in the 10-14 inch range. The action was fast and furious with very little down time. Only 2 other boats on the lake. Although we were using dark colors due to the dark light conditions, it was one of those days when anything probably would have worked. Started and finished with same set ups. No need to change and try new rigs.
We stayed in the area of the lake by the launch seeing plenty of marks there. Fish were in the 20 to 30 foot range. Started off not hooking up on the first half dozen bites but once we adjusted our set backs to a shorter length and lighter grip on the releases, our ratio of hook ups to the net improved dramatically.
The fish are just starting to show signs of turning into their spawning configurations. Still nice colored with the kypes starting to show.
Only have the one picture because we were too busy fishin to get any more. The pic is the finished product before the vacuum seal and subsequent smoker.
