Finally got out into the salt to chase some late summer Coho. Launched from Everett and fished for a bit just into area 9, seemed slow and just saw one released, so we decided to head down to Point Wells for the evening slack. Trolled all over with no action out in front of the oil docks, was marking fish but no biters. Had a pretty good blow back on the DR lines even with 12 lbs. (might need some 15 lbs. for trolling that speed) so it was hard to tell how deep I was. Worked a few different offering, herring in helmet, coho killer, ace highs, hootchies with strips but no action.
Just about time to head back and there were a few clicks from the reel, but did not look like anything was happening, figured it was the sharp turn pulling some line. Then it happened again but the rod was still clipped in and no action on the tip. Thought I must have some ell grass on the line so I try and release from the DR to check, but would not pop out, try again and then I feel the head shakes, Fish on! Got it to the boat and safely aboard. Gave it another half hour top see if we could find another willing fish, but time expired and we needed to motor back.
The fish hit on a green splatter back hootchie with twinkle skirt and herring strip, about 7-8 lbs wild fish.
Out in about 600' of water with about 120 feet out on the DR in front of oil docks.
