I can't believe I moved to WA in the mid 90s and never hunted down the elusive Razor Clam until last week. I have spent countless days on Hood Canal and the Sound chasing crab, salmon and clams but never the razor. My partner planned the trip to meet up with her coworkers. It was time to give it a try!

It was a cold rainy day with gale force winds, so it was a typical clamming day. Tried the gun and shovel method. The gun was the most lethal method but I want to use the shovel again. I’ll use it on a sunny day lol. We retrieved enough clams for a couple meals and decided it was time to head home. The dogs were in their kennels and we didn’t want them locked up for more than 7 hours.

There were plenty of people who were getting limits. I can only imagine how crazy it can get if the weather is nicer and the real masses migrate to the ocean for some clamming.

Everyone should get out and experience what the PNW has to offer. Go dig a clam (razor, manilla, butter, etc), chase salmon, drop a pot for shrimp, jig for squid or whatever you like. It will make you appreciate the costs of the items at your favorite restaurant or grocer.
