Went down to "Do the Puyallup' Seeing as WDFW doesn't allow fishing from a floating device
in area 11. (Yes,this means even inflatable pool arm floaties and casting in the water is illegal for salmonl). Caught some bright pinks last Saturday(8/26) on the river(picture). Seen a few Chinook caught(one about 17 lb). Had a nice coho or chinook peel my line hard across the river and spit the hook. Today(8/31) caught several slimmer buck pinks...funny thing was the bright hens seemed to be caught on the other side of the river. Seen a 12b chinook caught on other side of the river. No coho, all pinks. People laugh at the pinks, but the Puyallup is a cold river. Being glacial water it runs cold even when air temperature is hot. Bleed these fish and put on ice. This makes a big difference in the quality. Look for the fish with scales still falling off(set scale fish don't taste as well, pale meat).I hose the scales off and scrape the slime with a filet knife( makes a big difference when brining and smoking the pink salmon). More work definitely, but fish comes out really well. Smoke em'up and they have a lot of oil.( these are thin fish,so don't smoke at too hot of temperature).......Looks like some controversy is happening down on the Skokomish.....
