This was the worst day of great fishing ever. Everything went wrong that could including finding access areas all locked, falling off the bank with the kayak and with lots of mud, lost all my best lures, tons of snags and line tangles, fishing not getting hooked and one big fish broke off at the boat. With that all being said I caught a lot of fish today, I think 8-10. I can't ID them well, many seemed like kokanee but may be the coho salmon. The trout looked like rainbows but I'm sure everyone will say they're cutthroat, though they don't have throat markings.
Fish were surfacing all day, many right near the launch. They were mostly small though and most only wanted bugs. I wouldn't recommend anyone else try to launch there. After packing my kayak and everything else 1/4 from the locked gate, the ramp gravel road ends at a 4 foot muddy bank. Very hard to get in an out without falling in. The water is only around 10 feet deep though. I would go the the ghetto public area before the boat launch it looks more like launching from a beach but will still require some walking.
I didn't have to go far to find fish, I think I didn't go more than 1/4 mile from the launch. I caught one big trout that felt like it was 3-5 pounds even though it doesn't look that big. Lots of kokanee/salmon up until around 11:00.
