Greenrowboat, I appreciate your concern for the trouts well being. I, like you; am critical about safely releasing any/all fish I do not intend to retain. The reason for the regs. as they are is to prevent fish from injury in particular from swallowing. All the fish I catch are hooked in the lip and are stressed even less than catching them on a fly rod because I quickly land and release those I do not intend to keep. If my angling overstressed any fish I did not intend to keep or caused any injury, I would just get my 5 and call it a day. Thank you for siting the regs. so people know. Even though my presentation lists "scented plastics" I catch a good number of fish on plain single hook lures without any additives and have often times gone barbless...
