Showed up about 4:30 pm & headed out. We brought both spinning & fly rods to see what is to be caught.
We anchored down along the east side & tried out the spinning gear. Since we've started fly fishing, this was the first time this summer we've pulled out the spinning. We were almost as bad as beginners. LOL Though I did hook one, it dropped off as soon as hit the boat. I gave up after a 1/2 hour & picked up the fly rod. Within 5 mins. I caught 6 BlueGill. Which pretty much set the tone for the rest of the trip. Ron then picked up his fly rod.
We were there for trout BUT the BlueGill were EVERYWHERE!!!! We must've caught between us around 100. It was sickening. Though they are cute as buttons, they are like a pack of pirhanas. I guess we are the only C&R anglers that visit that lake for all the trout to be gone. Or at least most of them.
We did catch some puny largemouth. Ron also caught a perch. Not one trout to be seen, not mouthing or jumping. Just BlueGill.
