Rode my bike down to the lake around 1:30 pm to try out some flies I tied. The 65th St. pier was packed by the usual crowd of Russians chucking bread for carp, so I continued north to the T-dock by the pool. Tried just about every strategy I could think of, but got skunked. Attempts with chironomids yielded a few possible bumps, but no real takes. One guy who showed up scored with a blue Castmaster. I think his rainbow was probably around 10-inches. That was all he took, though he and another guy with the same lure got a couple of hits. An older gentleman who wandered by volunteered that some "blackmouths" were planted and were not taking bait. Only hardware or flies were working with them. This was the first word that I heard of these fish. Left the lake around 6:30 pm with a bandanna tan on my forehead and news of the Mariners' 5 runs in the eighth inning. Go Mariners!
