Fished Dry Falls on Saturday for the first time. I spent the day from 10:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. and got skunked. However, I also walked away knowing why. The one thing that I neglected to bring was my fast sinking line. Had I had that, my chances surely would have been vastly improved. The fish were deep with nothing rising. As it was, fishing was slow for those who did score, and wind was a major factor for those who didn't have a good means of constantly controlling their position. One couple from Longview (Ron--or was it Rick?--and Vicky) caught about five each and lost just as many. I think their fish averaged around 17 inches or so, with maybe one or two cracking the 20's. They did use fast sinking lines and still-fished with chironomids or trolled with woolly buggers--both at or near the bottom. They used float tubes to work the big hole at the north-end of the lake. One other person also did himself happy. This young guy in one of those cheapo inflatable rafts caught and released a couple but called it a day when he caught something he never saw before. It was a big beautiful brown trout that had to have been over four pounds and at least 20 inches. It was the first I've ever seen--outside of a magazine picture--and it was grand. He called it a day, because he wanted to show his dad. I really don't blame him. BTW, he trolled a barbless needlefish off of a fly rod. Unfortunately, he didn't mention the color. Next time I decide to go there again, I know that I won't forget my type VI Uber-fast sinking line on that second spare spool that I will not forget to buy. Tight Lines!
