My wife and I and the kids left the boat ramp at the O'Sullivan Dam at approx. 0845. We went to the Frenchman's Wasteway and trolled rapalas to no avail. After 30 minutes of fruitless trolling I decided to replace the rapalas with the old stand-by....a large No. 5 blade orange Blue Fox Vibrax. Needles to say....after approx. 3 minutes of trolling the vibrax my wife caught her very first trout ! A very nice 23 inch Rainbow. We were in 18 feet of water and the water temp was 73 degrees. She was probably the happiest person on the lake when we finally netted it. We trolled a little while longer and then decided to move on to the north end of the reservoir...BIG MISTAKE...My composite boat propeller decided that enough was enough and gave way...(we didn't hit anything either) The inner splines sheared off while we were in 60 ft of water ! Fortunately we were only stuck on the lake for about 10 minutes before we flagged down a very nice family with a Monster sized SeaSwirl boat!
. They were very nice and "towed" us back to Mar Don where we completed our boating journey.
I offered them money for their trouble but they graciously refused. THESE ARE EXACTLY THE KIND OF PEOPLE WE FIND ALL THE TIME AT THE RESERVOIR- EVERYONE IS KIND AND CONSIDERATE ! I offer another sincere Thank-you ,to those people....We hope to see you again under better circumstances....I was very happy to find an older gentleman at Mar Don who offered me a ride back to my car and trailer at the O'Sullivan boat launch. Everyone at Mar Don was very helpful. Overall it was a decent fishing trip with a few bites and my wife's very first trout. If our propeller had held up we undoubtedly would have caught lots more fish !
