After having been cooped up inside the house for most of the winter, my fishing partner, Bill Reese and I decided to brave the elements, and try our luck over the mountains to fish the seep lakes. We put a boat in at Heart Lake and fished for two hours without as much a nibble. We trolled and still fished for about an hour each. The water temperature was 41 degrees. Our fish finder did not mark a lot of fish. The ones it did mark, were all about a foot or two off the bottom. We put the boat back on the trailer and walked 200 yards to Windmill Lake.
We banked fished until dark, about two hours, and got one fish, weighing about a pound.
After a good nights sleep at MarDon's resort . We got up at day break and drove to Warden Lake, where we put in at the north end of the lake. The outside temperature was 37 degrees with about a 10 mph wind , making fishing somewhat more than uncomfortable.
We still fished the south end for about an hour, with no results.
After talking to several bank fishermen that had not seen any action, we decided to try trolling. We trolled for four hours and got 5 fish, after using everything in our tackle box. One on a green wooly bugger, one on a double whammy, two on pop gear with worms (Jack of Diamonds), and one on pop gear with wedding ring and worm. We observer one boat, with three guys dragging wet flies that appeared to be doing quite well. They said they were using various patterns.
The water temp was 41 degrees. Fishing should pick up at this lake when the water warms a few degrees.
