In the last month my sons & I have put 40+ trout in our freezer off this lake. Went out last night on the canoe & caught 1 near the VA dock trolling pop gear with wedding ring tipped with crawler. As I was boating the fish a huge 4x4 buck crashed out of the woods on the bank into the water 20 yds. in front of the canoe, swam 30 yds. out, turned around & swam back to the bank. I finished putting the fish on stringer & we heard a crash behind us about 100 yds., the buck had jumped back into the water & began swimming out to the island. We watched him turn to swim across the large part of the lake, after swimming out about a half mile he evidently decided he wasn't going to make it & swam back to the bank just 400 yds. from where he entered. Overall he must have swam over a mile. Very crazy but, a cool sight for my boys & I. I'll be looking for him come archery season. The bite was off last night but, that buck was worth the trip.
