Spent Thursday night at Kelly's resort and launched from the State Park bright and early Friday morning determined to catch a fish. And by 1 o'clock after throwing everything including the kitchen sink in 6 hard hours of fishing, that's what I had. One 10 1/2 inch Kokanee. To say I was a little disappointed is an understatement. Just
then the weather decides to start thundering and lightning and raining on me.

Though the 1 Kokanee was bigger than the 8-9 inchers I had caught at Chelan in the past, I was determined to have something more to show for my efforts. So even though I could feel the static electricity coming off my graphite rod, I decided to stick it out.

I tucked the boat in closer to shore, where the deep water comes next to the road south of the state park figuring that the trees on the steep bank above the road would get struck before me. Of course with the change in weather that's when the fish started biting.

I started reeling in fish as fast as I could get my gear baited, set up on the downrigger and the boat going through the area on my sounder which showed hundreds of Kokanee. I ended up catching 9 more fish in less than 3 hours or about a fish every 20 minutes not including the 4-5 that stole my bait or got off. Since the new limit on Chelan is 10 Kokanee I was done fishing for the day by 4, and was pretty happy with results.

Was fishing for the Kokes at a depth of 30-40 ft using pop gear, wedding ring baited with worm and green glitter power bait.

The next day I went back to the same spot I fished the preveious day. In slow fishing I picked up 2 more Kokes and a small rainbow that I released, when I decided it was time to catch some Mackinaw.

Putting on my U20 flatfish and the downrigger ball down to about 225 ft, 10 feet off the bottom, I had 2 macks in about 2 hours of fishing. On the first one, I messed around and took some pictures as I was fighting it.

Later, after spending a 1/2 hour getting the line unwound from around the fish so I could put it into the live well, I decided not to take any more pictures. While I had been trying to get 1 handed camera shots, it had been wrapping my slacked line around itself! I guess you can't stop reeling or you end up with a big mess with these fish.

Anyway the next one went better and I ended up with a 2.5 lber and a 4 lber.

The Kokes are bigger on the Lake this year and if you hit them right, you can catch a lot.
