I have fished this lake many times before having some good success only to return using the same tactics as before, in the same area as previous, only to come away SKUNKED.
This however is a different story.
6/2/04 Started out trolling a Carey Special fly on an intermediate sinking line and as entered the larger portion of the lake, the action began. I found success wind drifting down the lake to be very productive and after 6 hours came away catching and releasing 16 Rainbows ranging between 13 and 17 inches.
6/9/04 If it worked once, why not try it again? After last weeks outstanding day, I decided to try the same method and tactics again. Once again after 6 hours of fishing I had caught and released 11 Rainbows ranging between 13 and 16 inches.
6/16/04 If it's worked twice before, why not again? As I was about half way down the lake, took a vicious strike which nearly wrapped my flyrod around the back of my boat then snapping off the fly. Tied on another Carey fly and continued to drift for the next 1 1/2 hours catching 3 Rainbows of 15, 16 & 17 inches. Approx 12:00 the wind really kicked up so that my drifting had nearly turned into flying down the lake and this continued for the next 5 hours. Approx 5:00, the wind velocity calmed a bit and once again success catching 2 Rainbows of 14 and 15 inches. After this things went REALLY DEAD and don't know if the fish lost earlier that morning had gotten the word spread not to hit anything which might look like what was in his mouth.
The past 3 weeks have been very good fishing despite the downward trend in the number of fish caught.
