Re: Totally new to Saltwater...

I talked to a guy at Point Defiance Marina and he told me the boats only have 9.9hp motors. That definitely seems VERY underpowered for out there. My Dad retired as a DOD Civilian a couple weeks ago and has access to some really nice rentals on JBLM, I'm sure that's what we'd use instead of the Pt. ...

Re: Totally new to Saltwater...

Thanks for the awesome reply! I'm going to go "scout out" some of the piers and docks today I think and just see what everything looks like. I haven't even been to Ruston Way or Pt. Defiance on foot in probably 10 years now. I might even go to Narrows Marina or Pt. Defiance Marina and see what they ...

Re: Totally new to Saltwater...

I used to work at Skipper's quite a few years ago (15ish) and we used to actually hand cut and bread the fish ourselves then. We regularly had to pick worms out of the cod.

Re: Totally new to Saltwater...

From what I'm seeing it looks like a Buzz Bomb is primarily a salmon lure. Personally, I don't care what I catch. I'd like to catch something that I can eat however, just to be able to say "yeah, I caught and ate <this> last weekend!" so it doesn't need to be salmon. Are their places that aren't usu...

Totally new to Saltwater...

I have only fished twice in saltwater in my entire life. Once we tried trolling for salmon about 15 years ago and got nothing, and once we bottom fished for anything that would bite about 10 years ago and got a few flounders. I'm interested in finding places I can fish for saltwater fish, whether to...

Anyone here into video games? MMOs? How about Ultima Online?

I played UO on Pacific Shard from early 1999 until sometime in 2002 I think, maybe late 2001. It was and still is the best game I've ever played. So much freedom for an MMO. Most games now days pigeon-hole you into grinding out quests and leveling then raiding for gear, so you can raid for better ge...

RE:24 volt vs 12 volt Bow mount Trolling motor?

I went from a 12v 50# to a 24v 65# and couldn't be happier. My boat is a 16' Bayliner Trophy 1710 (Bass boat) and if you don't steady yourself speed 5 will knock you off your feet when you push the foot pedal.

Never had battery life issues, even after 8+ hours on the water.

Unfortunately they don't have your lake.

RE:Fishing Reg Question

I think one of the main reasons trout are so popular, is that they are fairly easy to catch. Any person can go troll in a circle for a couple hours with a worm and a flasher and catch fish.

People like things easy.

I must be doing something wrong...

Me and my Dad fished Mcintosh lake today for HOURS and caught nothing. I had one smallish LMB follow a black/blue vibrashock, wouldn't bite though. Other than that, not a single strike for either of us. We used spinner baits, kreature baits, vibrashocks, a little bit with a senko. I tried all the co...

RE:No Dick Nite Spoons at Cabelas

I'm really not too terribly impressed with Cabela's at all. They are expensive, have a poor selection, and their employee's all seem like wal-mart type employees. They don't know anything. "Uhh, lets look at it on the website and I'll see if we have any." You better know what you want when you go th...

I use Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft for Spinning, and regular for my baitcasters. 8lb for spinning, 12lb for the others. Works great.

RE:Silver Lake in Pierce County

I spoke with the new owner when he came into the store I work at. He was posting fliers for a fishing derby tomorrow for the family of the man who drowned there recently. They are charging $35 entry and will be giving all the money to the family. There will be some cool prizes like a 40" Plasma TV, ...

RE:catching and eating carp!!!!

The grass carp in Silver Lake (Cowlitz) are not there to be caught or eaten, regardless of what that resort description says. They were introduced to that lake about 15 years ago for milfoil control. They weren't cheap either. They put 83,000 of them in there. They are all Triploid (sterile) and qui...

RE:Fair, reliable boat shop/mechanic?

Well, I'm going to go to Silver Lake (cowlitz) for the weekend and see how it behaves. It did good the last time it was out. I was thinking of going to Angler's Marine here in spanaway, they charge $92/hr. Quoted one hour for full engine diagnostics. Not sure what they'd charge to service my carbs. ...

Fair, reliable boat shop/mechanic?

I'm looking for a decent outboard mechanic that can tune my johnson 90hp motor on my bass boat. I live in Spanaway and would prefer someone semi-local. Does anyone have any experience with boat shops near Spanaway/Tacoma? Anyone to avoid? What is a reasonable shop rate? Thanks in advance.
